What do I do if I get a referral?

You must respond to the person who sent you the referral (typically Heidi Donahue or Yesenia Sequera) within two buisness days of receiving it, either to accept or decline the referral.

If you accept the referral, please contact the client within one week to schedule a meet-and-greet. Note that this initial meeting is not considered a prenatal visit. By accepting the client, you agree to the following responsibilities as a CDP doula:

  • Complete two prenatal visits.
  • Be “on call” for two weeks before and after the estimated due date (EDD), ensuring you can reach the planned birth location within an hour, day or night. If you are unavailable during this period, you must establish clear backup plans with your clients.
  • Attend the birth when your client goes into active labor and stay through the immediate postpartum period (typically 1-2 hours after birth).
  • Complete two postpartum visits within the first six weeks following the birth.

If you are unable to fulfill any of these responsibilities, please make arrangements with your client and your backup doula.
