explained the roles of a doula. what we do/ do not do.
asked what kind of support she is looking for, what what be the most helpful for her during the labor/birth, what her postpartum plan looks like. She just moved here from Hawaii during her pregnancy to be with her partner, and so she has no family or friends here in Oregon. She feels alone as far as female support and although her partner is vert attentive and involved, would like a female presence with experience with birth to be there to coach both of them through this. She plans to have her baby at the corvallis birth center, and feels as though she is choosing the right path by doing a drug free birth but is nervous about how to manage the pain and would love help and guidance on how to deal with it during the moment. we discussed things that both I and her partner could do to help her manage the contractions and she felt very at ease after we discussed.
Lonnie (her partner) will take a week or two off of work after baby arrives but then she will be completely on her own, so the idea of having some extra female support after postpartum sounds very reassuring to her.

2nd Prenatal Attended By: Heidi Donahue
Location of 2nd Prenatal: clients home
Time: 1.5 hrs
Notes:
talked about how she is feeling and she said overall she feels great. we talk more about her birth plan, and she was saying that she doesn't not want any of the things offered for baby other than the heel prick done. she wants lonnie to cut the card after birth and then they plan to bring a cooler to bring the placenta home for someone to come get and encapsulate for them.
she is getting a little nervous, and we talked about some of the things she could do to get ready for the birth such as spending time on the birth ball, doing some good stretching and getting plenty of rest. I gave her and lonnie some "homework" to do where they could practice some of the labor positions together and see how they feel and get a good laugh together, and to practice hip squeezes and counter pressure and see what feels good to her. we talked about when to call me during labor and when doulas typically show up. we talked a bit about breastfeeding and what she had questions about regarding breastfeeding right after birth.

She doesn't have any friends/family in Oregon, and so other than lonnie and his family she doesn't have any help or support and so we talked about things she could do to keep herself from feeling too lonely and to feel like she has emotional support when lonnie is at work.
